A typical question asked on many bbs's by novices is "Do 950's trace", or
"What are my chances of getting caught?". Since these and many similar
questions appear frequently on bbs's, this file will clear this question once
and for all.
The following are excerpts of a discussion on tracing from Yeomantry
Technic:

Well..950's will always be safe...
That's what they say...Then how come
we all stopped using 950-0777 (7 Digit
sprint) or 950-0488 (ITT) ? I dunno,
but I been told, a big legged woman aintgot no soul...Err, sorry, I dunno..
People talk, and the talk is this,
950 is independant, and thus Cant trace since it's basicly Int'l..Correct? Well,I got a bill once, ated before, from sprint for using 950-0777...
How did that happen?
As for 1800, yer never sure if they're
safe until someone get's caught..
And we all get caught..
Half the fun is knowing that....
The other half is not knowing
when..

#34:950s trace

Pholks,

The fact is that 950's are C.O. depen-
dant and usually only available if you
are in an electrical/digital switch
(I.E. ESS DMS etc.) you cannot dial
them by dialling an areacode first...
they are like ANI or RINGBACK. 950's
are patched in directly to your C.O.
so as you can figure they have absolute
access to the ANI tones. In short it is
just as easy for a 950 to trace as not
to. It used to be a phreak rule to avoid
them (about 3 or 4 years ago) but then
some phreaks started using them and the
other phreaks noticed that no one was
getting caught on them so we all started
using them... until the proof finally came
in the puding that 950's trace
(the same weariness also existed about
1-800's but weve all gotten laid back
more than we should.)

I doubt that the 383654966 bills because I used it VERY VERY much and
haven't received shit, yet.. (And I'm hoping I won't!) I've made a lot
of mistakes using the wrong codes (like AT&T cc ALONG time ago and never
got billed) it seems like they're laying off of 602 or something. Only
person I know that ever got caught here was Hackrat and he used the
950-1033 Backdoor, i guess some cities had it/ some didn't.

Knightmare:
The truth is, the 950's DO trace.
How do you think sprint or any other
billing service settup works.
The code tells where the call came
originated. ( i believe this to be
correct?).
Another thing to let you know is
that when you are billed, it wont be
2 days after you have used the code.
It may take a while..pending on what
they find out about the user.
(If they belive the code to be
abused)
One other thing to tell you is,
Never, ever fucking abuse codes!!!
Sure its okay I guess to use a code
more then once or twice but 'Very Much'
doesnt hold water when it comes to
paying the piper.
or sprint, which ever it may be.

not only can 950 sprint trace... but
the billing info is always already
there... when they get the bill it
lists the point of origin of the
call much like a 3rd party bill.

PS: heres a codez info line:

WELL A COUPLE THINGS....

AS WE'VE ALL KNOWN FOR WHILE, 950'S DO TRACE.

THE THING ABOUT IT THOUGH, IS THAT WHEN THEY DO IT THEY PRINT
OUT BIG LISTS. IF YOURE TRACED, YOURE NUMBER IS ONE IN MANY
ON THAT LIST, SO UNLESS SOMEONE AT THE COMPANY FEELS LIKE
SITTING DOWN FOR MANY HOURS AT HIS/HER DESK AND VERIFYING THE
NUMBERS ON THAT LIST, YOU WILL NOT GET CAUGHT.

ANOTHER REASON THAT THEY'LL TRACE IS IF YOU SET UP YOUR CODE
HACKER AND A MONITOR HAPPENS TO NOTICE SOMEONE CALLING IN
CODES ONE AFTER ANOTHER, IN SEQUENTIAL ORDER. THE OBVIOUS
THING THAT HE'LL DO OF COURSE IS SIT AND ANI AT THE NEXT CODE.
THAT IS WHY (FOR ANY BEGINNERS OUT THERE), IF YOU ARE GOING TO
CODE HACK, NEVER DO IT IN SEQUENTAL ORDER, ALWAYS RANDOM.
ALTHOUGH THOSE OF YOU WITH APPLE //'S WILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH
THIS (AS WE ALL KNOW THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE TRUE RANDOM # GENERATORS)
WELL, TUFF SHIT.......

LATER......
