Our Underground World: Hackers United

The screen lights up and the modem buzzes in the night. The dialup finishes, and connection to a remote computer is established. For most people,thrills come in the form of paychecks, or promotions, or expensive cars and mansions. But for a select few, whose population continues to grow in the world; hacking is a rush, a wonderous punch to the face. A hacker has nothing more important to he or she than their technology. My love in life is my computer. I am an addict, an obsessive computer user.

Because of my intense, insatiable desire to learn and devour information, I have gained knowledge of computer systems, and the vast networks which make up the world around me. The average person is satisfied with what they are told, and their average computer intellect is what prevents them from ever accessing the other side of the computer. They see the screen, while we see the internal workings of these beautiful monsters. A computer is a monster. A work of genius, with a touch of insanity. And the ones who are labeled hackers are the ones who understand computers far surpassing the average person. The judges, and detectives are afraid of what they don't understand. In the circumstance of a hacker's arrest, the hacker is usually labeled a black hatted hacker; a hacker who uses their intelligence of computer systems to inflict destruction or intense devestation. These black hats and white hats don't exist in the world of computers. White hats are supposedly the good guys, the techno-angels whose desires to steal are overpowered by their need to assist in finding exploits and loopholes, which administrators patch up after being told where they are located on the systems. Hackers are just given choices. One choice is explotation, which benefits the hacker, and teaches the hacker. Because true hackers are never truly satisfied. The second choice is to exploit the flaw and to tell the system operator or atleast a network administrator. It's all up to the hacker. You see, without choice, there would be no good nor evil. If there weren't any choices for the hacker, or for anyone, there would only exist a null world; a world where good and evil are nonexistant. Hackers must realize for themselves, just as I had to realize years and years ago, that without the cattle (a reference to the 1995 MGM Motion Picture "Hackers"), or the folks who are computer illiterate, there would be no cowboys. Hackers: Continue your journeys into the unknown, for the better of the world. Round 'em up, cowboy.
