While I can't give you much information on the magikal uses of Lilacs, I can
give you some on preserving them. I hope this will be helpful.
In the first place, the actual lilac flower, when dried does not retain
it's scent like other flowers such as roses. So the best way to preserve the
scent is to make a lilac oil. This is very easily accomplished. All you need
is a very pure oil, some folk use safflower, but I prefer almond (available at
your local health food store). Pour the oil into a small container and pack
in as many lilacs as it will hold. Leave for 24 hours, drain and squeeze out
all the oil possible from the flowers. Get more flowers and repeat the
process. Repeat this process for about 10-12 times, more or less. You will
have to start early in the lilac season because it is so short. (at least it
is here)
At the end, you will have a wonderful essential oil, great for Lilac
pot-pourri. I believe in aroma therapy, lilac is know for it's soothing,
tranquilizing properties.
