Christianity is False

by John C. Piles

These days it seems as though everyone is trying to sell you Jesus. Everyday when I walk in to a Wal-Mart or a bookstore all I see is Jesus. Even the president is pushing Jesus on us.

Christianity can not be proven, nor can Judaism, or Islam or a dozen other religions (not Buddhism, because Buddhism is a philosophy and not a religion). In order to believe in any of these religions, one must have 'faith.' Faith; in my view is what drives terrorists to fly planes in to buildings. In the mind of the terrorists, they believed that they were doing the right thing. They wanted to please their god. What they were doing was brave, and noble. It was also stupid because it was based on faith. In Christianity, faith is what makes people pay money to a church when they don't have to.

There are so many things that suggest that the bible is not true. Firstly is evolution versus creation. 99% of our genes is that of the apes'. And for creation to be true, we would all have been inbreeded from two people. Finally we would have all be inbreeded again from 8 people on the Ark, which was 75ft by 450ft and was supposed to have held 8 humans, 2 elephants, 2 horses, 2 giraffes, 2 lions, 2 tigers, 2 polar bears, 2 grizzly bears, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 antelopes, 2 wildebeests, 2 apes, 2 buffaloes, 2 cows, 2 chickens, 2 hippopotami-lets not forget the different breeds of dogs, bears, elephants and apes.

Now for the Jesus thing: The universe is huge. We live on planet Earth in the solar system in the Milky Way galaxy. Each and every star we see in the sky is a world much bigger than Earth. Now why should we believe that that the salvation of the whole universe is based on one man paying the price by dying like every other man? If there even is a god, then god created man knowing perfectly well that there would be sin. Why would he do that? Yeah I know...free will...god works in mysterious ways. Why can't god just forgive us rather than have us worship this man Jesus? It makes no sense. The bible says that the only way to get to heaven is through Jesus. Well only about 1/5 people are Christian...or at least say they are Christian. This means that 4/5 people (at least) are going to hell for all of eternity. It seems to me that if there is a perfect god, he would not send 4/5 people to hell, because most people do not deserve to burn in hell for all of eternity. Christianity is just another religion.

Bottom line; there is zero proof that Jesus will save you. There is however a such thing as better living through Christianity. This is because the philosophy of Jesus is excellent. If people would act like Jesus, the world would be a better place and people would be happier. Prayer is also an effective way to deal with problems. It allows a person to put in to words the exact nature of their problems and then gives the problems to god. In other words the person stops thinking and worrying about the problem because he has "given it to god." Christianity also serves to bring people together as a community and to support one another which is also healthy and positive.

Now I pose the question: Why must everything be all about Jesus? I live in America and I am constantly being annoyed with people pushing Jesus on me. I live in a community where most of my friends are Christian and they want me to join them for church and be converted. I am immediately regarded as non-boyfriend material by most of the girls my age because I am agnostic. People say that you can't have morals if you don't believe in god. That is totally wrong. I care about other people and I have a non-selfish desire to help other people even if it doesn't help me in any way. It is socially unacceptable to say what I believe when I say that Jesus was just another man. I also have a hard time dealing with politics being mixed in to religion. I am sorry but I can't stand George W. Bush. He has done nothing positive for this country and he won again because he is Christian and is pro-life. On the abortion issue, I sit on the fence and can empathize with both sides. I believe that guns are stupid. They kill people. Guns are like alcohol, they are stupid but fun. I enjoy drinking, but I also know that it is stupid so I only drink moderately. I also know that this country would be better off without alcohol and guns. Bush's economics don't work. Tax cuts for the rich are stupid. We need to help the poor, not the rich. Iraq never had WMDs. I am sorry but Saddam Hussein is not a terrorist. Bad guy...yes, terrorist...no. Bin Laden and the Al Queda is the real worry. They need to be taken care of. Their 'faith' makes them harm other people.

A few things that I think you should do:

1. Question everything, especially authority.

2. Consider your religion and why you are part of your religion.

Here are some of the right reasons to be involved in your religion:

-because you have thought seriously about your religion and have weighed all the facts that prove your religion is right

-because you have done research and no other religion seems to be more accurate

Here are some of the wrong reasons to be in a religion:

-because your friends are

-because you were brought up in a religion

-because it makes you feel better

-because it is the most popular religion in your local area

-because you feel that you need to be part of something and you don't really fully believe in the religion

-because you like attending the church service because of the music or because it is a chance to socialize.

-because you used to not believe and for some reason now you do. This would be when you just made yourself believe to fit in.

-because you are afraid of hell. If you are afraid that you MIGHT burn in hell if you don't believe in Jesus then you don't really believe in the bible.

Because a real Christian would believe that he WILL burn in hell without Jesus. He would then be out trying to save every soul he could.

3. Be real. Face it. If you don't fully believe in your religion, then don't say you do. This is America, it is still okay to be something other than Christian; though it is not popular.

I used to be Christian, until I got bored going to church one day, so I questioned the whole religion. I put aside every little message that had been pounded in my head about the bible and asked myself what I really thought of the whole religion. It was that day after hours of thinking that I became free. I was finally true to myself and not going with the flow. I was no longer telling myself lies from the bible. I was no longer imposing rules from the bible on my day to day living. I no longer had to pay tithings and go to church every Sunday and feel like a horrible person every time I did something bad. These days I try to take care of other people and myself and make life better for everyone. I do not need Jesus to do this. I already have a natural compass inside of my mind that tells me what is moral and what is good.

I don't know what the after life brings and no one else does either. But with a universe so big and with life being so complex, it seems to me that we either die and don't even exist in the after life or we get reincarnated to another form of consciousness. I believe that the universe has a way of balancing things out and that your best strategy in life is to try and live a long life (in case there is no after-life) and a happy life and be a moral person. I define moral as caring about the welfare of others and yourself.

In conclusion use your head. Think about things. If you believe in something, know exactly why you believe it. Don't just believe in things for no reason.

*I would like to see an America where agnostic people can get together every Sunday and have community time. A sort of Church that is perceived by the general public to be just as legitimate as a Christian church. Where people can work on morals, get support from other people and do activities together.
