Real Conformity
by slasher_13
Do you know what terrors lurk beneath the surface of reality? The reality in which we live, injected full of such meaningless superfluous garbage that we are expected to employ in our everyday lives. Small things like fads that some many people live their lives by, It is reminiscent of a religion, their god is fashion, their god is the opinion of others. Isn't that unsettling to you? Isn't it unsettling that a phrase such as ? Don't ever judge me? can become a phrase used by those people in which the phrase was invented for? The subliminal riffraff comes from such subtle things too, things like M-TV, magazines, rappers, pop icons, you name it. They market their product which is intended to sell, the product sells because of the popularity of the pop icon, the pop icon is a product of other pop icons. So in turn people buy the product whether the product is tangible or rhetorical. This in it?s self is not a problem but a by product of this is the very thing in which most of these pop icon say they are against: conformity.
You see, these people create their object, and because these people are well known and looked up to most other people take their object as their own way of life. These people like it and cannot conceive of the possibility that others may not like this thing which they adore. These people obviously think that by taking in this way of those people that they look up to that they are somehow fitting in, or perhaps they think it will make them more popular or make them better liked, much like the idol in which the fad or object or train of thought originated from. These people make up the majority, they carry this virus which isn?t really a virus at all but rather it?s more like a fad. The few people that may not like this thing are ridiculed, and in a way this object is forced upon them. For example consider rap:
Where rap comes from is irrelevant as is what is it supposed to mean, but rap is at this moment in time the next big thing. Everyone who is anyone listens to rap, they dress like their favorite rapper person, they talk like them too, they in a sense attempt to become their favorite rapper. A lot of people do this, and they look very similar to one another, and if they do not look very similar they try to because after all isn?t that what a fad is? This would not be quite as bad if these people, these ?clones? as I have came to call them would not try to force their ways upon the few other people who resist. They do this in a multitude of ways, and too be quite honest it isn?t just rap that creates this effect, you also have the labels: ?goth?, ?punk?, ?prep?, etc. These are all in a sense the same because the desire of each group is pretty much the same: attention.
Although there is no way around this, the only true way to remedy it (although this is just my opinion) is originality. Originality is the cure for this shit that is slowly taking over?or should I say has taken over the civilized world. Although there is no new thing under the sun still an attempt could be made. If you think about not even the older generation is exempt from this, think about it. We have world leaders who?s ambitions are all relatively the same: money, fame, power, etc. it?s a worldly epidemic that has eaten away at society for years and years to come. It comes in all shapes, all colors, and races, all sexual preferences. This is conformity, you see? Real conformity happens under your nose just inside your blind spot where you cant see. It isn?t huge changes that make or breaks things, it?s the little things. It is so often the little things that destroy big things.
So I guess on the whole this little lecture has really done no good, it's not like I expected it too. The sad fact is that these people who fit the description are totally blissfully unaware of their epidemic that hovers over their head so obvious to the people who can see. I can only hope that the world will someday see this, and attempt to correct itself only then will the world be a nice place to live.
