The ticket
master rip off

Plus:
The anti-facist movement,
Inside:
3: Ticketmaster's civil war
4: Skinheads are not punk
5: Reviews; Sick Of It All
6: a note from HBJ Ticketmaster sucks. The great rocknroll swindle. All over again.
So, you are sitting at your computer, reading the latest Pen Cap Chew, and you see your little sistoutside, mowing the lawn, taking out the trash, and taking care of her own dog for once. So you tk o notice and go back to the No Jump Kangaroos review. After finishing that, you check on your site aain. Something is wrong, she's still working. Then you look on your computer screen and see te lttl no carrier screen.
Your sister stands there, thirty bucks in her left hand, a phone in her right. She punches in 481-s and says," Hello I'd like three tickets to the Nine Inch Nails concert on Saturday." You hear a bifsilence. "A hundred bucks, that's highway robbery," your sibling booms. She hangs up the phone ndsas, "I need seventy dollars fast," She sounds desperate," Please, I'll sell you something, all y Fgaz stuff, Black Flag, NIN you name it!"
She pratically crying and finally you say," I'll give you ten for Black Flag, "Nervous Breakdown" aten for Dead Kennedys Holiday in Cambodia. She agrees, stiffs Mom for thirty bucks and goes. So, o ave a night of punk listening enjoyment, your sister goes to see her Pouser Boy Idol Trent andfialy Mom wonders where her wallet is.
You don't want to believe it, but Sis was right. She just got flat out robbed. Remember Pearl Jam(aGang of Pousers and the Conformists)? They decided to duke it out with TM and nothing ever happend ddie Vedder could not care less. He does not buy the tickets, you and your sister do.
Plus your parents. Everytime the Eagles come to town, they could be paying up to three hundred doll to go see a bunch of old farts play ten songs. TM hikes up the prices that high, by the way. But h?
I know you want to know, so keep reading.
They want to stay rich and since there is no market, no other place to get tickets for anything (ext for TicketMaster). It's a monopoly, simply put. By our justice system, that is toatlly illiegal.Nw since none of the senators or Clinton dial those seven magic numbers, they don't seem to care. ouerboys Pearl Jam seemed to make no impact except to make Tabitha Soren, MTV dork, seem to cheer.("Yy, t's great to see some stupid Generation X boy try to make a diffirence).
Anyway, in the early eighties MCI and other phone compaines got lots of help from Uncle Sam to get ir phone businesses off of the ground, to put an end to AT&T's monopoly. They know they have conto ver prices as well and can jack them up really high, because you cannot go anywhere else. So youar gtting extermly riped off.
There are other places to get tickets, they aren't as universal, but they do work. Fugazi can sell tickets through the fan club, just like the Greatful Dead. But if you have a pouser sister or brohr (of if you are the pouser, get this off your hard drive now) NIN won't sell you the tickets thouh he club, I don't think the Conformists do either.
Another dilemma you must face is the service charge. This basically is you paying TM for you to buheir tickets. For them to print them up, tear them off and say "have a nice day." If you are givin hm a hundred dollars, I don't think that you should have to pay for what is yours. I find all of ha srvice charge crap extremly stupid.
So, we must rise from our computers and our couches and speak out against Ticket Master and servicearges. We buy the tickets, it's our problem, we have to get congress to get something done about hww're getting conned out of our hard earned dough. If we don't say anything, nobody ever will. Wak u.

Nazi Punks F--- off
The anti facism movement
I am commited to writing something about the old school, a little lesson if you will, for Pen Cap C, every issue. This time I'm writing about the driving forces of the eighties, anti-facism. Almosteey Dead Kennedys song is against facism, Sick of it all mention is all the time, and Fugazi seem bese with damning the facists to hell. That's what they are here for I guess.
But how did this start? Simple. If you can recall the third issue of this zine, you may remember tpeace punk movement. All of the anarchy stuff meant no rules. If you cogitate upon the matter a lite many rules are a lot like facism. Even the concept of respect. ("I'm better than you, so treat e ik a king. ") I don't know about you, but that really, really pisses me off sometimes. There ar coceps to facism that only benifit the facists who destroy the world. But racism is a form of faism ots f bands are interested in destroying as well.
Every Fishbone shirt I've seen is anti-racism. The bones were influenced by Bad Brains, who were pu
But as anti facism went from irony in songs to straight forward chants, the peace punks faced a nems they will have to fight for all eternity. Skinheads. The nhilistic points of view voiced by MurpysLaw, Carnivore, and others attracted many punks and also had it's simmilaties between audiences Pac punks were from middle class families, and mabye took a stab at collage. Skinheads were anti-ntelecual, and usually working class. So,these bands began attracting many disenfranchised punks ad Hery Rllins, Ian Mackaye, and every peace punk was working around the clock to keep their audiene. Th skineads just sat back and hated people.
Well, that's all I can fit on one page, so I guess this is all for this lesson.

Sick of It All
Scratch the Surface
EastWest records
I think if we close our eyes and think of the mid eighties, when punk was thriving, we can remembeands like Black Flag and the Minuitemen. We can remember their " moshabilty" and their enegry, to a othing of anger. Most of that anger has turned into flat out greed by now ( Greed Day) and sometme w may or may not remember how exciting they were to hear. So, after much reflection and though, Sck f it All decided to stop complaining and just write damn good hardcore songs. However, this ay nt sem punk to most people. When I first heard them I thought of Black Flag and Saccherine Thrut, bu Slayr and Pantera as well. Of course, in the late eighties, you would hear some metal mixed ith hadcore.Just proof that punk's bright candle was burning out.
When I first approached this CD, I saw an ad in one of these coroprate magazines and it read, "The t of the New York hardcore outfits!" Well, they do sound east coast to me, but they have that SoCa oesty and general hatred of facism that will make you go out and lynch that Nazi veteran that livs ex door to you. Another thing hardcore did was make the dreaded guitar solo and endangered specis. ickof itAll can only make Greg Ginn sit back and smile a big smile knowing he' done a good job. Theopenng song "No cure" sounds kinda like a Pantera song, but you can feel it's enegry flowing troughyour eins. I get the same feeling every time I play a Fugazi CD. So, you feel like moshing wth whoever ocuply your household. Even if it's your furniture. Then"Insurrectable " comes on, makig your nger doble. The first five songs do just that.
"Who sets the rules," is a total slap in the face to authority, facism, and there are none of thosesky cryptic lyrics to tell me or you that. Lou Koller has a voice that can make Phil Anselmo soundlk Rivers Cuomo. Next after "Who sets the rules" is "Goatless" sounds like a Led Zepplin bashing,bu i more is a song about one thing that seems completly obliviolus to Lou's generation, responsialit. Gatless here means, "no one to blame but myself"
The sixth song is, "Step down," an absloute nightstick to the jaw to mainstream music and facism. Is the most moshable hardcore song there is, to say nothing of Sick of it All's closest thing to aho. With opening lines like "In the underground, intregirty lies within," Darby Carsh is rolling ovr n is pitiful grave. The lyrics look like something culled from one of Henry Rollin's notebooks. ut,youdon't exactly care, you're too busy in your own mosh pit.
Every song has some mention of the truth. Truth that is hard to face, but we must face it or relive. "Maladjusted" seems to be just what I said in the paragraph before. Seems like S.o.i.l. harbor a xreme hate for the reporters who not only blow stories out of preportionm but ones who also make es o what the story is. Truth is a dangerous thing. Those who know it have power, those who are igorat o blind to it can only live in total bliss. And ignorance is bliss.
Enough on the phillisopical things, let's get to the title song. Why I don't call it a track is sim. It' a song. Somebody sat down and put some time into it. Tracks are what trains ride on. Againstawll of speedy drums and guitar parts, Lou asks the question of why there is so musch crap in the ord nd who let it be here in the first palce. It's a good question and damned if I know, but I do elive n the concept of some facist asshole who lets all of this crap into the world and keeps me fom ettig a job.
So, Sick of it all rule. plain and simple. There' absloutley no other way to put it. Buy it.

From the Desk of HBJohnson...
Perosonally, I didn't think that Pen Cap Chew would do so well. I didn't think anyone out there wasto the Punk is dead concept, or was interested in a CD scam or whatever.
