Part Marks
- "Can I help you sir?"
- "Well, maybe you can. I have a kitchen range with a control knob that's
no longer illuminated. I took the indicator apart and there's a small
light bulb with a little brown cylinder shaped thing wired to one lead
on te bulb"
- "A resistor."
- "Ya probably, you'd know better than I would. Anyway, I think that
brown thing's burned out."
- "Did you bring it with you?"
- "No, I left it on top of the range."
- "What sort of ohm value does it have?"
- "'ome? ... Oh I see, 'ome on the range, that's funny!"
- "No sir, I'm asking which resistor you'd like."
- "Well, you know, the standard one... it's got little coloured bands
on it."
- "Which colours sir?"
- "Does it make a difference?"
- "Yes, it does."
- "Well, it's about three eighths of an inch long if that helps."
- "Half watt size."
- "Half what size?"
- "Yes, half watt."
- "Which half?"
- "What?"
- "Which half is half what?..."
Please, folks, Volta, Ampere, Faraday, Watt, Ohm, Henry and
Hertz would be greatly saddened if they knew you weren't using the
units named after them, and putting proper values with those units.
Engineers, technicians, and designers study electronics for years and
charge LARGE fees to select appropriate components for specific
applications. While we would love to be able to take a wild guess at
your requirements when given very limited information, that action
won't really help you, and it could be down right dangerous. - The
great fire of Chicago supposedly started over less.
We thank you for your continued support.
