a word about silence
by cypher thorngood
The television on mute is not loud at all, but it would be so loud to Absolute Silence. To Dead Silence. Think how loud it would be if you could hear Everything. To silence everything that is not nothing is something. We've learned to tune out so much that we don't realize we're hearing all this "background noise". But if we could know absolute silence, what would we be hearing right now? Or as we drove through town? If we could hear everything, what would we be telling ourselves? Listen; if we knew what nothing looked like, what would we be telling ourselves right now? If our hearts were open, what would we be feeling?
