I've worked in upper priced homes doing various types of maintenance and renovation for quite a few years.

I've had numerous opp's to work with all the various trades.

Chit-chat can reveal some very useful information.

To be effective, you have to be polite and respectful.

If you talk to the phone guys and alarm installers, they can (and *hopefully* Will) give you a phone number to call that will "announce" the number you have dialed from.

Simple!

It's all handled by computer, so there's little risk.

You can usually get a local (7 digit) phone number but in the course of my experience, I obtained a 1- number that has worked every time (and location) I've used it!

Try - 1.899.555.5555

It's worked in Atlanta, Nashville, Jackson (TN & MS), New Orleans, Memphis etc.

Dial 1.899.555.5555 and you'll hear a beep tone and a computer generated voice announces the number without the area code... I guess the computer "assumes" you know the area code you're calling from.

So, not to belittle any phreakers, hackers et al, you don't have to resort to trickery or something else as risky in order to obtain the phone number you're calling from.

Just dial this number!

Yer's Master A
