THIS IS NO FAKE!
This is actually the first time I have spread a file intended
to be read by the guys on the UK scene, despite all the fakes
that have been put out in my name. I think that this is
the best way to inform you how wise you would be to consider
stopping your illegal activities.
As most of you will be awared of we have been targetting the
bulletin board systems since May 1993. It was decided to
concentrate on them, as we believe it is through them all
the market traders and other non-scene guys selling software
are getting the files. Not only is this behaviour a CRIMINAL
offence against the UK Copyright law (just for the record,
it carries a TWO YEAR jail sentence AND an unlimited fine)
but it is hurting the software producers, authors and
copyright holders to the extent that whole formats have
been and are being wiped out. Anyone seen any new Atari
games lately? Anyone seen a BBS close down an Amiga conference
because of the lack of new releases?
Last year we hit two major boards - you know who they were.
So far this year we have closed two more in the first month,
and to those sysops who shut down and then re-opened after
a couple of weeks I would suggest you might have been a bit
premature. The dust hasn't settled yet, guys....... this year
it will be open season on what you all thought was a protected
species.
We think its a bit sad that people think they can change their
numbers and then think they will be safe. Likewise the front
screen, the NUPs and the New User screens. Frankly, they're a
joke. (Kitaro, I like the new closed board for members only -
VERY exclusive. Not.) You deadheads actually believe you are
the only people on the planet that can hack? Join the real
world, and realise you are playing with the grown-ups now.
The reason for this textfile is to advise the wise guys out
there that this is no game, this is for real and that when you
get a knock on your door (or maybe something a bit louder,
eh Infiltrator? Did Scorpio help sweep up the glass?) there's no
way to back away from it.
So here you are, folks, this month's SPECIAL OFFER! Pull the
plug NOW and you won't get hurt. Guaranteed! Or, keep the
BBS going: Put up the shutters, close all the old accounts,
have THREE passwords on the system, interview New Users
personally, only let them on if they're your brother-in-law,
keep your backups with your Mum's bank manager, rename the
conferences 'SNES PD' etc (oh yeah, that really was a good
one...) and operate from the top deck of a bus with a laptop....
I guess you MIGHT get away with it. Or at least sleep easier.
But not for long, because YOU WILL STILL BE ON MY LIST.
Next weekend is the Chinese New Year. It is the year of the Dog.
It's also the year that the pirate sysops finally grow up.
