Distributors of Factsheet 5 and other 'zines

ARTCITE, Mackenzie Hall, 3277 Sandwich St., Windsor, ONT, N9C
1A9, CANADA; (519)-977-6564: "An artist-run centre for the
contemporary arts"

ART IN FORM (Laura J. Millin, PO Box 2567, Seattle, WA 98111) has
been selling FF since early '86. "We require a sample copy with
liberal trade terms preferred. It is best if we can pay for
copies sold of an issue when the new issue arrives -- some call
this consignment (though definitions of this term vary!). We do
not swap. The only material we are not interested in is
traditionally pornographic. Bleck."

DAVID K. BEST, 567 W. Stratford Pl. #407, Chicago, IL 60657:
David stocks a couple of stores in the Chicago area but may be
too busy with Roadkill Records these days to want to take on any
new zines.

THE BLACK AND THE READ (Tim Dimick, 1719 Forest Ave, Knoxville,
TN 37916, (615)-525-4844) is a cooperatively-run,
non-wage-paying, not for profit resource center. They stock a
wide range of thought-provoking and fun publications on
consignment. Send Tim a sample copy with suggested terms if
you're interested. They're also happy to distribute free
literature in the Knoxville area.

BLACKLIST MAILORDER(181 Shipley St., San Francisco, CA 94107,
415-957-9390) has been aggressively advertising their service in
many zines, and they're quite committed to the small press.
Their terms are rather novel, since they're non-profit: they
mark everything up 20% over their wholesale price. "Send sample
with selling price -- racist, sexist & fascist zines shouldn't
bother sending a sample. We are open to music, political,
poetry, fiction, art, etc. We operate on 60-day consignment. At
this time we are only selling zines in English due to our
language ignorance." They've been moving FF steadily since they
started, and are fast and easy to deal with. Contact Martin for
more details, or send your zine.

THE BOOKSTORE, Betty Grande, 307 W. Allen, Springfield, IL 62704.

BOUND TOGETHER BOOKS, 1369 Haight St., San Francisco, CA 94117:
An anarchist book store.

BULLDOG NEWS, 4208 University Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105.

DUTCH EAST INDIA, 81 N. Forest Ave., Rockville Centre, NY 11570.

ERL RECORDS, 418 Madison Ave., Albany, NY 12210; (518)-432-0851:
Pretty much just music stuff.

FLATLAND DISTRIBUTION, Jim Martin, PO Box 2420, Fort Bragg, CA
95437- 2420: "We'll consider anything. We don't deal with
record stores, so we have difficulty selling zines centered on
music. Send sample copy. Special interests: orgone,
situationist, fiction, east-west dialog, autonomy." Flatland is
also very interested in hearing from those with books to sell
via distributors, and with other publishers who can work out
reciprocal distribution deals. Jim notes that zines with color
covers, better paper, and a price printed on the cover sell
better, while music and poetry have not been moving well for him.
50% consignment terms, with whole copies good for return credit.

GULF OF MAINE BOOKS (61 Maine St., Brunswick, ME 04011, 729-5083)
writes "we carry zines and also LPs -- we would welcome review
copies, consignment deals, catalogs. Especially interested in
music, green, women's metaphysical and Native American titles,
and small/alternative label LPs (no cassettes or CDs except for
spoken word cassettes)."

HOMING PIGEON, Ken Oatman, Route 1, Box 813, Elgin, TX 78621;
(512)-276-7962: A regional distributor, stocking many stores.

LAST GASP, 2180 Bryant St., San Francisco, CA 94110.

LAUGHING HORSE BOOKS, 1322 NW 23, Portland, OR 97210:
"SPecializing in books and magazines for social change. Film,
anarchy, poetry, fiction, women's lit, ecodefense, resistance to
the death machine and builgint he new world now." Send samples
to Alon K. Raab.

MAC'S BACKS PAPERBACKS, 1785 Coventry Road, Cleveland Heights, OH
44118 says "I'm looking for poetry/lit zines, and those that
publish heightened documentaries (Sean Hill, Randy Russell,
etc.). I'll take them on consignment -- 65 (writer) - 35 (me)
split. I'll mail money as soon as I sell one. I can take between
1-3 copies of anything." Get in touch with Suzanne if you're
interested. A more recent letter suggests that her strongest
needs right now are literary, visual and regional works -- at
least for sale in the store. However, Suzanne is also organizing
a small rpess archives and lending library, so all zines are
welcome for inclusion in that.

MEMORY HOLE BOOKS, 122 Trinity Place, Syracuse, NY 13210: Opened
in September 1988. "We are interested in carrying just about any
anarchist/ libertarian/counter-cultural zines." 60% of cover
price on consignment with unsold copies returned on request.

MIRLITON BOOKSTAND (c/o Brad Ott, 916 Euterpe, New Orleans, LA
70130) writes "We would like a sample copy before we distribute.
Other than pornography, or right-wing wackoism, we're welcome to
most anything. Presently, we have FACTSHEET FIVE, OUR
GENERATION, FIFTH ESTATE, KICK IT OVER, OVERTHROW, OPEN ROAD,
GREEN ACTION and THE NONVIOLENT ACTIVIST, plus half a dozen
local papers/zines. We have on order several more. Terms are
negotiable upon agreement to distribute -- but consignment is
preferred."

NOIR LEATHER, Chris McCormick, 117 W. 3rd St., Royal Oak, MI
48067.

DON OLSON DISTRIBUTION, 2645 16th Ave. So., Minneapolis, MN
55407; (612)-724-2976.

THE PAPER PLANT (John Dancy-Jones, PO Box 543, Raleigh, NC
27602, (919)-834-9203) says simply "Yes, put the PP on potential
dist list. We try to provide an open retail forum for
alternative arts & culture, local or otherwise." Well, here they
are. FF sells well there, so give 'em a shot.

THE PRIMAL PLUNGE, Mic McInnis, 107 Brighton Ave., Allston, MA
02134: "A sample copy is very, very helpful. I usually deal on a
60/40 consignment basis, but am open to negotiation. I'll carry
or look at anything." Michael runs one of the very few stores
anywhere that is devoted to fanzines, as well as being active in
publishing his own zine NIGHTMARES OF REASON and now issuing
books under the Primal Plunge imprint.

RECORD GALLERY, PO Box 25686, Seattle, WA 98125-1186

REDWING BLACKBIRD DISTRIBUTION, Bill WIthers, PO Box 2042,
Decatur, GA 30031-2042, (404)-377-0875: Bill sells 100+ copies
for me in the Atlanta area, and he seems to be getting really
involved in small press distribution.

SEE HEAR, Ted Gottfried, 59 E. 7th St., New York, NY 10003,
(212)-505-9781: "A sample copy with cost and terms info plus a
phone number would be great. As you know, we're looking for
music mags & books plus..." Send an SASE if you want to be sure
of getting a response, and do include your phone number. On
terms, Ted prefers selling on consignment, and needs to know
whether you accept returns for credit -- and if so, if it's just
the cover or the whole zine you want back. SEE HEAR sells more
copies of FACTSHEET FIVE than any other single store. You can
find out a bit more about Ted's operation by reading the
interview with him in FACTSHEET FIVE #26.

SIR REALIST PRODUCTIONS, Bob Ramsak, PO Box 862, Athens, OH
45701: "I've hooked up with a local thrift store in a good
location close to campus to distribute publications, so I'm open
to just about anything -- politics, music, literature, poetry,
art, etc. No hate literature, or right-wing self-righteousness.
I would prefer a sample copy with an SASE, and will work on a
60/40 split. I'd also appreciate a note from publishers giving
me permission to reprint some things in SIR REALIST, but will
distribute regardless of reprint rights."

SMALL CHANGES, 3443 12th Ave. West, Seattle, WA 98119;
(206)-282-3665: A regional distributor stocking stores in the
Northwest.

JASON F. STORM, BOOKSELLER, 1154 Forst St. #102, Honolulu, HI
96813; (808)-536-2708: "My shop specializes in the fringes of
the literary scene. We are anxious to examine new titles."

THELEMIC ARTS CENTER, General Delivery, Accord, NY

TOWER MAGAZINES, 2601 Del Monte St., West Sacramento, CA 95691,
(916)-373-2561: "We do need to get samples....Obviously, I'd
PREFER music-oriented zines, but the only thing I really even
can't consider is a newsletter sort of thing. We just haven't
got any way to market them. Also, xeroxed zines have a poorer
chance than printed ones, but we have made exceptions." Tower
buys on consignment, with the one office sending zines out to
all the Tower stores worldwide. They need to get 50% off cover
price, but they will return entire unsold copies if you ask, and
if they pick your zine up, they'll be ordering a few hundred
copies.

UBIQUITY DISTRIBUTORS, Joseph Massey, 607 Degraw St., Brooklyn,
NY 11217: A major stocker of newsstands in the New York area and
along the East Coast -- but I find his terms to be only
marginally acceptable.

WHOLE FOODS MARKET, Lotte Stavenhagen, 914 N. Lamar Blvd.,
Austin, TX 78703, (512)-476-1206: Lotte is the buyer for books,
cards, magazines and t-shirts at this store. She says "I am
always willing to look at new titles...I stock generally
health/lifestyle oriented things, with a strong sideline of
politically liberal or downright left wing titles. Anything that
will appeal to college educated non-traditionalists will fly
here, and I like to have things that are hard to find anywhere
else."

WOODEN SHOE BOOKS, 112 S. 20th St., Philadelphia, PA 19103 says
"We would be happy to look at single copies of new mags (or as
many of free zines as they want to send). Trades are possible
but not preferred. We are interested in anything within the
broad anarcho-anti-authoritarian-situ spectrum."

MARK ZIESING, PO Box 76, Shingletown, CA 96088: Mostly SF, though
he does carry a few other zines. Does most of his business by
mail order.
