He sat in the bed in the two bedroom apartment, grooming his long black
hair. "But, honey, why won't you?"
The women, who was also combing her long black hair stoof in the bathroom
gazinf at herself in the reflexive surface. "I already told you, Harold!
Its because you're an ape!" She was exaggerating just a bit, because Harold
was a chimpanzee, just released from the zoo down the street.
"But honey, you said you would!" Harold could'nt believe this! After all
the banana's and the pies, and the scratches when the warden wasn't
looking, and now this. She was teasing him all along, Harold now realized,
and he was getting angry. I mean, the nerve of her!
"Harold, I said no such thing! You're a chimpanzee, I'm a human! It would
never work."
"You don't know that! And if you're a human, I'm a human too. Hell,
Margaret, you look like me, you smell like me, and you like banana's just
as much as I do! So were both humans, so come over here and do it!"
"Harold, you are impossible! If you were a human, they never would have put
you in the zoo in the first place. People don't come to a zoo to look at
people, they come to the zoo to look at lions, tigers, and chimps like
you!" She shook her head and ambled over to Harold. "Look, Harold, I know
how you feel, but I'm not going to do it."
Harold turned away. "Then it was all a lie! The banana's, the honeymoon,
the scratches. You were just putting me on. I can't believe this! Me,
Harold, king of the jungle, lied to by the animal killers. This is just the
day!"

"Pathetic, isn't it?" The burly man spoken from behind the glass window.
"Yeah." The woman repled, "they actually think their monkeys. I wonder what
it is Harold is trying to get Margaret to do?"
"Oh, I don't know. Hey, I'll stay here and watch if you go get me some
coffee."
"Ok, sure." The woman shrugged out of her lab coat and walked through the
door with the stenciled letters, LOCHTON MENTAL HOSPITAL. The door closed
behind her and the man was alone.

"Pathetic, isn't it?" The little monkey behind they glass window spoke.
"Yeah, the other primate replied, "they actually think they're
psychologists studying animals.. And they think they're humans too." She
shook her head. And for the next five minutes, the two head monkeys of the
Monkey Institute for the Deranged were silent.
And then they ate a banana.
