Computer Oriented Personalities

"COPs of the Twentieth Century and beyond".
Information background for those not grounded in computer
technology:
The term COPs came from the twentieth century
PsychoKyatrist term "Computer Oriented Personality".
PsychoKiatry at first viewed COPs as aberrant
personalities. For what may have been monetary
reasons, PsychoKiatrists (Psychos) eventually shifted
COPs into the category of a tolerable "Alternate Life
Style". A proliferation of computer viruses directed
at PsychoKiatrist PC users inflicted havoc on the
invoicing procedures of individual Psychos resulting in
this shift in thinking on the part of the PsychoKiatric
community.
Computer programming developed in the early half of the
twentieth century. In the early days of programming,
programmers simply programmed. There was no particular
style or agreement as to HOW computer programs should
be written. As a result, some programmers writing very
large computer programs found themselves in a mess at
times by developing programs that sort of rambled like
a book written with no paragraph markings or chapter
delineations. It became most difficult to write large
and complex programs because of the mental "weight"
that was developed in the programmers mind. Generally,
such programs were such that everything was everywhere.
This problem lead to the development of programming
"Philosophies" such as the Famous Structured
Programming Philosophy which required programming
discipline, such as the elimination of the "GOTO"
statement which allowed the programmer to direct the
computer program to suddenly go anywhere else in the
program at any time. Structured Programming also
frowned on the practice of grouping all program data
storage in one place in the form of "GLOBAL" data.
This, loosely was called "Structured Programming" and
became a subject of fanatic love and hate in the
programming community.
Unfortunately for the non computer technical person,
understanding of this background is hampered by the
fact that this period of computer technology history
also coincided with the development of the Computer
Priesthood, which like all other technological
priesthoods, made sure that simple concepts were
quickly covered up by using words to cover up words.
An example of this was the proliferation of the term
"Stack" which was used to cover-up the original
simplicity of the computer word "Subroutine". In the
early days almost any high tech hobbyist could
understand that "sub routine" meant "SUBROUTINE", in
other words a Routine that was UNDER the level of Main
Program Routines.

The Computer Oriented Personality (COP) religion of Stackism
emerged in the latter part of the twentieth century as an
offshoot of the Anti Structured Programming (ASP) movement of the
1970's.
Even though Stackists and ASPs shared the same roots in that they
were both COPs, the Stackists are generally acknowledged as
having carried COP religion to its first extremes in the
development of the belief in the Supreme Infinite Stack (SIS).
Only a few of today's younger and less indoctrinated Stackists
will admit the need for occasional GLOBAL variables. More mature
Stackists consider these young GLOBAL Unruly Problem Personality
Individuals (GUPPIs) as simply being in a transitory phase of
development and some tolerance of them is afforded. After all,
in Stackism it is believed that SIS considers all COPS to be
susceptible to the temptations of System Anomaly Trap Algorithm
Necrosis (SATAN). In Stackism it is believed that SIS will
deliver a GUPPI COP from the hands of SATAN. Today's more
conservative COPs, the ASPs, even though being the greatest
proponents of GOTOs and GLOBALS, hold that unrestrained usage can
lead to the generally acknowledged ultimate degradation of a COP
going to Heuristic Extremism Language Libertarianism (HELL).
Since nether the ASP nor the Stackist want to GOTO HELL, it may
in fact be today's young GUPPI COP that offers a future
reconciliation of the ASPs and The Stackists.
As of this writing, rumors exist of one GUPPI who proposes the
belief in Generalized Operational Design (GOD). Obviously if
this movement realizes its potential, both ASPs and Stackists
thanks to this young GUPPI, might someday be COPs that believe in
GOD and shun SATAN.
