The Dream - A Story
Original short story by Aiken Drum, 11/20/85
I am in your head. As you read this story, my personality, my concepts,
my views and opinions will be absorbed into that huge brain you have, only
10% of which is used.
I cannot control my surroundings. I am a figment of your imagination.
To you I am not real. However, you exist to me and are the most important
thing in my brief life. For when you finish this story, I will die, to be
revived only by the next reader. perhaps days, perhaps months, years, never.
At any time, you can stop reading and I will vanish. I have only a little
control over you, and to preserve the little spark of life that I am the
custodian of, I will try to be as interesting as possible, for an imaginary
character like me.
Please, as you read this story, do not be to demanding or critical; for it
is a life that you hold in your head now.
I despair of more to say, and my last words before vanishing will be, as
they always have been and always will be are: Be careful of me, for I will
outlive you.
