Obsidian Beauty

by Adam "Hex" Hansen

Obsidian Beauty

The zebra raced on the great lands of Africa, stepping upon wind as it blazed through the plains.
Majestic beast! A poacher grows near, and the beast makes swift to the trees.
Reaching a clearing, the zebra sees the litter of man, a shard of glass.
Consuming this glass, the zebra bleeds from its mouth, spilling to the earth.
Rotting to worm(f)ood*, all that remains is rejuvenating blood.
Rising from the carnage of man is a massive butterfly.
Thunder and fire burst from its crack(l)ing** wings.
This Lord of colors ascends towards the sun.
Rainbows burst from its wings, shining glory on the world.
The poacher closed in on the Lord of colors.
Clouds wrapped around the butterfly.
Blankets of armor brought precision to no bullet.
Melding with the heavens into forms of vapor,
Returning its body to air.
The earth was shattered by rain.
From one puddle a frog was born.
Wiser than Plato and Socrates,
Pondering the mysteries of the poacher?s wrath.
Suddenly,
A bullet crashed through the wise one?s skull,
Green and violet juices spilled to the ground.
The frog returned to water and blood,
Which seeped through the earth for years.
Upon reaching the fires of Hell below,
The blood took form of rock,
Rushing through volcanic veins,
Melting into the fire that rushed it forth.
Landing on a beach miles away,
And obsidian stone found resting.
A little girl walked along the beach,
Setting her eyes on the stone.
Gazing into the mystic beauty,
She felt a love for life.
From the earth that bore it life,
From the air that bore it wings,
From the waters that bore it wisdom,
From the fires that bore it purpose,
All have completed the circle,
And become that which matters most,
Love.

*Was originally wormwood. Was reading about absinthe earlier and it was on my mind when I had intended to type wormfood.

**Originally cracking. Simply either missed the 'l' key or didn't depress it adequately.
