Harvesting Opium

First off, you will want to get some seeds. You can get some at www.alchemy-works.com; a seed of choice is Hens and Chickens but the Persian Whites is also very good. Now order the seeds...
You must plant the seeds in early Spring or late Fall. The plants like the cool temperature so be aware. Now the plants are gonna come up within 20 days, usually half the time. The plants will soon develop these seed pods, when the plant dies, these are left behind.
So when you see the seed pod and it gets to the size of at least a dime, you must use a method called milking.
Milking is when you take an exacto knife of sharp object and make a shallow cut on the pod, about 3mm deep. You see, the pod doesn't contain Opium but the pod's "skin" does, as a residue. Now after you cut the pod, some white stuff comes out, this is your Opium before you dry it. You harvest this and dry it under a lamp.
You DO NOT cut the pod off of the plant, hence the term, milking. Wait a week after you harvested the opium and go back to harvest some more. Keep doing this until the seed pod is fully mature. Now you take the pod and wait for late fall, then smash it open and there should be hundreds of little black seeds inside; plant 'em!
There's another process called cooking the opium; the point of it is to remove the impurities. It's a lengthy process that I do not wish to get into so I will just end here.
